The things that hold you back and how to control them

Why do so many lack the ability to envision what they want their life to look like? This is because they have been pressured. We all have things that hold us back to some degree and we are often completely unaware of many of these things. The great thing about being human is that we have the power to control our circumstances and bring about change, which is exactly how to break free from the constraints that hold you back.

Here are 10 things of motivation that can hold you back and how to take back control:

1. Accreditation

What is the sign emanating from a person who has no control over his life? Accreditation. Whether it depends on family, friends, or even the government, you alone are in control of your life. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can regain your independence and regain control.

2. Frequency

How many times have you gone to a restaurant, only to be tempted by having to decide whether to order one of a hundred items on the menu? If you love the most, you will probably take 15 minutes before making a decision. Even so, you might still be questioning your decision!

The most successful people in the world make decisions quickly. Develop your muscles in decision-making by being conscious every time you have to make a decision - think fast and trust your intuition.

3. Friends and family

Many times it's the thing we don't even suspect that holds us back the most. One of the biggest factors not successful for people is friends and family. Whether their limiting beliefs, negative or lack of faith in you, it is imperative that you distance yourself from anyone or anything that will frustrate you. Sometimes you have to be tough about this, because you'd rather isolate someone from your life, rather than stay at the hamster wheel with them forever.

4. Lack of discipline

Will Smith remarkably stated that “self-discipline is at the center of any kind of material success in the world” - which I 100% believe is true. Do you wake up on time? do you practice? Are you eating the right foods and going to sleep on time? If the answer to any of them is "no", then you are holding yourself back. Fortunately, discipline is transferable and by mastering discipline in one area of your life, you will be able to pass it on to others.

5. Your phone

On average, people check their phones every 12 minutes, which is quite annoying when you really think about it. Our phones are probably the biggest barrier of them all, as they are on us at nearly all times.

The quickest and easiest way to control the use of your phone is to define your intentions. Remind yourself to use your phone to only do important tasks, and turn it off when you don't need it. The less time you waste on your phone, the more success you will have.

6. Social conditioning

Now that's not really our fault - we are all conditioned by society and its expectations from a young age. As our journey continues to grow, it is imperative to break free from our limitations. It is very easy to revert to these patterns of self-doubt and lack of self-esteem that are imposed on us, which is why it is imperative to exercise discipline in this area daily. Whether it is through affirmations, imagination or meditation, we must only nourish our minds with information that will help us grow.

7. Vices

If you are a human, there is a strong chance that you have some kind of vice. Be it alcohol, binge watching TV, pornography, or excessive eating. These are the things we know are bad, but somehow they continue to attract us. We have become addicted to the dopamine rush that our vices provide, yet we are often left feeling frustrated and exhausted.

I am a big believer in removing anything in my environment that would hold me back. Whether it's by turning off the TV when powered on, blocking certain websites, or not keeping bad food at home. Our willpower is limited, which is why we need to make it as easy as possible to get away from our vices.

8. Fear

Some of the biggest concerns that most people have fall into these three categories; Fear of failure, fear of rejection and fear of embarrassment. I would refer to fear as “the false evidence that appears on the ground,” which I analyze and choose not to acknowledge as true. A great way to get rid of certain fears is to remind yourself that you will one day die - and all of those decisions and things you did or didn't do will not be important.

9. Lack of awareness

Self-awareness is one of the biggest keys to happiness, purpose, and fulfillment. Through my personal experiences, I realized that I had long lacked awareness - who I was, what I wanted to do, and what was possible for me.
